Hybrid EMT Academy
September 11, 2024 – November 17, 2024
LifeStar and 911 e-Learning Solutions are proud to offer another Hybrid EMT Academy. This course is perfect for college students attending colleges in and around the Winston Salem area. You can complete the course along with your other studies and have an opportunity for employment immediately following class!
How It Works
At the beginning of each week you will be given your weekly assignments. You can complete these assignments ANYTIME and ANYWHERE. You DO NOT have to be online at a scheduled time.
Assignments will consist of:
- Reading chapters from the book
- Completing online interactive content (not boring powerpoint lectures)
- Watching short videos on how to perform skills
- Taking comprehensive online tests
Intensive Hands-On Every Other Friday – Sunday
On the weekend, you will meet in Winston Salem at LifeStar Emergency Services for one evening and two days of intense hands-on skills training and practice. At the end of the second day, you will take the comprehensive section exam(s) for each section you have been studying and practicing.
Required Days on Site:
- September 27-29
- October 11-13
- October 25-27
- November 8-10
- November 15-17
All dates are Friday – Sunday
Friday: 6:00pm-9:00pm
Saturday/Sunday: 9:00am-6:00pm
Ride-Along
You will be assigned to an experienced Preceptor who will serve as your mentor and guide for your clinicals. You will have to ride along for a minimum of 48 hours. Here you will get to experience a variety of patient encounters and function along-side of your preceptor performing as an EMT student. You will be expected to perform a full assessment, including vital signs and SAMPLE history on a minimum of 10 patients. By the end of your ride time you will have met your clinical requirements and be ready for your finals.
Clinicals to be scheduled: TBD
Final Exam & TSOPE
You will notice on your schedule that Week 6 has 3 days scheduled on site. This is to ensure we have plenty of time available to complete the final exams. Your final exams will consist of two parts: Written and Technical Scope of Practice Evaluation (TSOP).
The written exam will be an overall comprehensive assessment of your knowledge as an “entry level” EMT. This exam will consist of not less than 150 questions and will be proctored on site.
You will also be given a series of scenarios (one at a time) where you will be expected to assess the patient(s), perform any necessary interventions, and choreograph any additional resources to treat and transport the patient as an “entry level” EMT.
Successful Completion
Once you have successfully completed the course, you will be ready to schedule your North Carolina and National Registry* EMT exam(s).
*Some students will choose to complete the NREMT exam while others only wish to complete the NCEMT.
Employment Opportunities
After you complete this course and obtain your NCEMT certificate, you will be eligible to apply for an EMT position with LifeStar Emergency Services. Students that show exemplary conduct, employability skills and professionalism throughout the course will likely receive a direct offer of employment from LifeStar Emergency Services**.
**LifeStar Emergency Services does not guarantee any direct offers of employment following this or any other course. Anyone that meets the eligibility requirements for employment at LifeStar Emergency Services may submit an application for employment.
